To ascertain the safety and environmental issues in small scale underground mining in Ghana, field visits were made to four licensed small scale underground mines at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana. Visits were also made to the office of the Minerals Commission to interact with the district officer and his assistant (secretary)
