Stone structures are not destroyed by fire itself. A fire may char the exposed stone surface, but will not destroy it. As Joshua Engel notes in his excellent answer, it would be the structural suppprting elements used, probably made of wood or other combustible material, that would burn and subsequently cause collapse of the structure.
28/05/2010 depends on the stone. Mostly you would need to use one or a combination of very strong acid, extreme oxidants, or fluxes that cause melting, and of course, combine these chemicals with heat to make the reactions proceed at a decent rate.
19/04/2007 Oxygen/fuel gas torches can melt granite, but more commonly they are used shape granite by causing the surface to crumble due to the thermal expansion caused by rapid heating. Also "sand" blasting is often used for "engraving" granite.
